Environmental, Health, & Safety Policy

WaferTech strives to protect and improve the quality of life of our employees and the community. Our Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Programs are designed to provide a safe workplace, prevent incidents, minimize environmental impacts and pollution, and assure compliance with applicable regulations. This is accomplished through integrity, customer orientation, innovation, and commitment; our core values.

Our EH&S department consists of well-trained professionals and among its staff are members of the following professional organizations:

Sustainability

We are strong believers in reducing our impact on the local environment through a number of key initiatives and programs:

  • Commute trip reduction program to encourage carpooling and other alternative forms of transportation
  • Effective waste reduction
  • Recycling of paper, plastics, computers, cardboard, and more
  • Water recycling and usage reduction
  • Use of organic or locally grown food products in our cafeteria
  • Voluntary participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "Performance Track" program, with commitments to environmental improvements
  • Initiatives to reduce
    • chemical usage
    • increase energy efficiency
    • reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Some examples of how these programs have made an impact include:

  • A reduction of hazardous waste, by 500,000 pounds per year
  • Successful elimination of hazardous substances from our products
  • Support and care of the wetlands that surround our campus
  • In the last eight years, we have recycled an average of about 350,000 pounds of material each year.

2007   Registered to the Occupational Health & Safety Assessment's (OHSA) Series 18001

2007   Accepted as a renewed member into EPA Performance Track

2006   Registered to QC 080000

2006   Accepted as a member of the US Occupational Safety & Health Administration's (OSHA) Star Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)

2005   Received grant from Community Choices 2010 to implement employee wellness programs

2005   Achieved 2 million man-hours and one year without a lost time accident

2004   Accepted into the EPA Performance Track Program

2003   Achieved 1 million man-hours without a lost time accident twice

2001   ISO 14001 Certified

2000   Passed audit to become self insured
